DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT

The Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts (SCPA), a division of the Scottsdale Cultural Council (SCC), seeks nominations and applications for the position of Director of Marketing and Audience Engagement. The Director of Marketing & Audience Engagement reports to the Vice President of the Scottsdale Cultural Council and Director of the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts.  The Marketing Director is a member of the SCPA senior staff and is responsible for leading the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy that maximizes attendance and revenue for SCPA's diverse menu of multi-disciplinary performances, festivals, fundraising events and educational/life-long learning programs. In addition, the Marketing Director is expected to provide effective leadership and a collaborative approach to pursuing opportunities for audience engagement and cross-marketing with a variety of community partners and other departments and divisions of the Scottsdale Cultural Council.

The Center seeks a director who can inspire and creatively engage colleagues, senior management, SCPA patrons and the SCPA Board in achieving the Center’s ambitious strategic vision.  This includes significantly increasing visibility and recognition in the local, regional, national and even international arenas by employing both traditional and cutting-edge vehicles.


Candidates must demonstrate both in-depth knowledge and successful employment of current marketing techniques, including print and electronic media advertising campaigns, web-based promotional and sales techniques to specifically target and attract younger and diverse audiences. The candidate must possess exceptional marketing experience applicable to leading a fast-moving, richly diverse menu of performing arts and interdisciplinary arts events, including performances, festivals, educational/life-long learning programs, and community outreach and engagement programs. The director must be outstanding communicator, accomplished at interpersonal as well as group interaction and leadership, with exceptional written communication and presentation skills. Leading candidates will possess management/administrative experience, be creative, able to assess risk vs. reward when recommending new promotional concepts, directions, and techniques, with the awareness of the many challenges facing arts organizations today. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about discovering, creating and/or helping to shape new opportunities, collaborative, energetic, and have a strong sense of business ethics.  The Director of Marketing and Audience Engagement will play a senior role in advancing the Center’s and the Council’s commitment to the arts and culture in Scottsdale, as well as enhancing the Center’s long and celebrated programs in arts education, regionally and across the nation. 

QUALIFICATIONS: (include, but are not limited to)

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in marketing, arts administration with an emphasis in marketing for performing arts or a related field is required; a Master’s degree in an applicable field is desirable.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive arts marketing leadership required with current experience at a senior management level.
  • Demonstrated accomplishments and achievements in the area of marketing, promotions and audience development with a broad knowledge and successful use of current marketing practices, including print, broadcast, digital advertising campaigns, Web-based promotions, pricing and sales strategies.
  • Leadership skills in managing a full-time staff.
  • Excellent oral and written professional communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills combined with resourcefulness and demonstrated creativity in marketing.
  • Excellent computer and technology skills, including knowledge of and a strong interest in electronic media as a current and future marketing tool.
  • Familiarity with database and customer relation management (CRM) systems.

APPLICATION SPECIALIST

Scottsdale Cultural Council (SCC) seeks a full-time arts and culture Application Specialist whose primary duty is to provide ongoing support, project management, and user training for the Tessitura software system at the Scottsdale Cultural Council.  SCC is a private non-profit 501(c)(3) that administers the arts in Scottsdale, AZ through the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and Scottsdale Public Art Program.

TESSITURA SOFTWARE® is a fully integrated database software system for arts & cultural organizations to record, track and manage all contacts with its ticket buyers, donors & prospects, The Application Specialist will work with the Scottsdale Cultural Council Tessitura users to insure data accuracy, data standardization, data entry protocol, and overall Tessitura user support and training. In addition, the Application Specialist will serve as project manager on current and future projects to customize Tessitura and related applications to match SCC business practices and increase the utility and effectiveness of the software for SCC purposes. 

This position will work in close coordination with the Database Support Specialist in the IT Department, and with senior staff in the Marketing, Development, Box Office and IT Departments.  In addition, the Application Specialist will serve as primary liaison with consultants and project vendors effectively managing project timelines, resources and outcomes.

Experience and Requirements

The successful candidate will be capable of quickly assimilating IT-related concepts, organizing and managing complex projects, working closely with managers with diverse program requirements, communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel, and assessing individual projects in the context of an overall strategic approach. The individual should possess strong initiative, leadership, and analytical skills, and be an effective teacher as well as collaborator.

A Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) in related field; 2 years technical work experience or combination of education and experience required.  SQL experience highly valued.  Tessitura software, development, and ticketing experience desired, but not required.  Candidates must have basic knowledge of indexing, basic query writing abilities, and an overall understanding of database architecture.  Must have the ability to read and interpret documents and technical manuals. Must be customer service focused. Candidates must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. This position will require the ability to communicate effectively before groups of customers or employees.  A demonstrated experience working with personal computers, Windows 2000/XP, Access or similar database application; word processing and spreadsheets required, experience with MS SQL a plus. Managing or working on IT and software implementation projects preferred.  Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends and considered “on call”.

IT ASSISTANT

The Scottsdale Cultural Council’s IT Department seeks to hire a part-time IT Assistant for help desk support and technology related problems. This position will report to the Director of Information Technology and Systems.

This position will answer, evaluate, and prioritize incoming telephone, voice mail, e-mail, and in-person requests for assistance from users experiencing problems with hardware, software, networking, and other computer-related technologies.  This position will identify, research, isolate, and provide suggestions and follow-up for routine user concerns, referring more complex problems to supervisor.  Additionally, the IT Assistant will troubleshoot problems with the phone system, copiers and printer equipment, provide training in MS Office applications and other applicable user applications. This position will setup computers and peripheral equipment and install software.  This position will provide the operations department with technical advice for events and meetings. This position will evaluate software for ease of use, provide clerical support and perform other duties as business needs dictate.


Candidates must have an Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in related field and one year related professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Must be customer service focused and communicate professionally and effectively with internal and external clients.  Must have the ability to read and interpret documents and manuals, write routine reports and correspondence.  A demonstrated experience working with personal computers, Windows 2000/XP and Microsoft Office 2007 required.  Scottsdale Cultural Council is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

ASSISTANT PREPARATOR
Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art seeks to maintain a pool of qualified on-call, part-time Assistant Preparators for periodic employment during the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions at the museum. The next install/deinstall period will be from August 22nd – October 8th. Documented art handling experience of six month to one year required. Wall framing, painting skills and familiarity with carpentry tools highly desired. Individuals must have the ability to occasionally lift up to sixty pounds per person. Must also be comfortable working at elevated heights when required and possess aptitudes for quick learning, problem solving and above all, teamwork. Individuals must be available to work a flexible schedule with periods ranging from one day to several weeks, Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm, as well as some evening and weekend hours.
